what is the 470 ?

The 470 is the mixed dinghy displayed in the Olympics. The boat is challenging to sail tactically due to its small speed differences and typically dense fleets. The 470 is frequently described as one of the most demanding, dynamic, and technical boat at the Olympics. It remains competitive across a broad spectrum of wind and sea conditions, encompassing the full range of conditions encountered in Olympic sailing.

The class allows for two people to sail on board, the skipper and the crew. As it's a mixed class to compete it must be a female and male combination. The skipper will steer the boat and sits at the back controlling the main sail. The crew is attached to a wire with a harness and trapezes off the gunnel, they also control the jib and spinnaker.
